Chardon Schools Begin Bully Prevention Program

Bullying is one of the most difficult issues students face today.

With generous financial support from the Chardon Schools Foundation, the Chardon School District is now addressing this issue head-on by implementing the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, the most researched and best-known bullying prevention program available today.

The Olweus Program is designed to improve peer relations and make schools safer, more positive places for students to learn and develop. Each of Chardon’s elementary schools is introducing the program this school year.

Hambden Elementary kicked-off the start of the year with an assembly about the new program.
The theme was Stop and “Paws” -  Don’t Bully! with a special guest appearance from Cleveland Browns mascot, Chomps.

Students left the assembly having learned the school’s new anti-bullying rules, which include not bullying others, helping others who are being bullied, including other who are left out, and telling an adult if you see someone being bullied.

Even with a school's best efforts bullying can affect the safety and wellbeing of the entire student population. In order to stop bullying, it needs to be addressed at every level of a student's experience. That's why a whole-school program aimed at preventing or reducing bullying throughout a school setting has shown to be most effective.

Park Elementary won Fox 8 COOL SCHOOL contest due in part to their enthusiastic efforts under the new program.  Park families really poured it on by voting into the wee hours of the morning, showing that they really are a cool school!  Special thanks to Park parent, Jennifer Kidd, who's nomination got Park in the running, and to all the fantasitic folks who voted for us!  Fourth graders Will Kidd and Julie Granger did a great job representing the school on the morning show set when they announced the win.
